Robert Treat
"TIES"
June 19, 2008 –
August 2, 2008

Colored wax
applied to a surface artfully is called encaustic painting.
Robert Treat is a phenomenally skilled encaustic painter. The
large canvases and smaller paintings on paper that are being
shown are all abstract paintings. The abstraction is very
organic and biomorphic. The artist enjoys using organic
materials (wax) to paint organic-form abstractions.
Wax is an interesting painting medium as it is translucent.
While watercolor can be transparent and oil paint is opaque,
uniquely wax allows multiple layers of intention to be visible
through the surface. Simayspace is proud to exhibit Robert
Treat, a skilled and thoughtful painter and a faculty member of
the Art Academy.
There will be
a reception with the artists

Gary Galligan
"Screen Paintings"
`
Gary Galligan received his art training in the
Mid-West. Perhaps this helps explain his fastidious
attention to the details of materials and the acts of
painting. Gary paints realistically as well as
abstractly. He has been quietly, seemingly shyly,
working for years in this community. As a manner of
introduction, Simayspace is proud to show a series of
abstract paintings. These abstract paintings are
executed as the apparition of a realist screen, tabled
within the frame of the canvas itself. Framed realism
sets the stage for the emotion of abstraction.
